About us
The reasons for our adventure:
After spending many years in a crowded and noisy city, and after working harder and harder until exceeding our own limits, I had to think again my daily life to find a new balance between work and quality of life and put again people back at the heart of our job.
After one year research to realize this ideal, upon returning from a vacation spent with locals, the click finally appeared for Sabine :
Open a guesthouse, yes of course !
After all, I was trained in tourism and I can speak several languages; this project had the advantage of living "green" but with a real social life.
With my boyfriend, we have been guests of bed and breakfast during ten years we understood the expectations of travelers, and I wanted to know the same happiness as the hosts who welcomed us: to receive you with simplicity and generosity.
Ensuring the well-being of the people we welcome, wouldn't that be happiness?
All we had to do was find this new setting.
Why here in Charente Marîtime?
The call of the open sea, the ocean, in a very sunny region, rich from a tourist point of view, all in a preserved environment, but close to a big city.
Our first crush on La Rochelle and the Marais Poitevin dates back thirty years, yet it remained the same with each stay. It is therefore quite naturally that we chose to settle there.
From dream to reality :
We dreamed of an old stone country house with a large garden.
To ensure proximity to guests while keeping our independence on both sides, two separate living spaces were necessary.
As soon as we arrived, this place seduced us with its 3500 m2 of land, its main house and its vast 19th century stone outbuildings which have remained "in their original condition".
I saw in this large landscaped garden enclosed by walls the promises of tranquility and security. The large swimming pool which completes the set has convinced me.
Our choices :
Thanks to the layout of the guest rooms in the stone outbuildings, the soul of the place has remained intact..
After more than two years of renovation, four guest rooms have been created with old world charm and modern comfort.
Each of them honors a local gem:
" Romantic La Rochelle " in homage to the beautiful and rebellious city,
" the Vines " echoing Pineau and Cognac,
" The Green Venice ", the other name of the Marais Poitevin
and " the Sea spray " which recall the coastline and its beautiful beaches.
The name LA CHARMENTAISE was born from the alliance between charm and the traditional Charentaise house.
But still ?
The door is open to couples as well as families, not to mention people with reduced mobility.
The idea is that you feel at home, as soon as you park in the car , that your reclaim time and reconnect with simple pleasures: listening to birdsong and strolling in the bucolic garden , swimming in the pool , starting a game of board games , choosing a book or a magazine , enjoying the sunny evenings on the terrace and tasting a plate of local products.
The equipped kitchen will give you the opportunity to make the most of the place.
In my eyes, the reception, the cleanliness of the rooms, the exchanges, the personalized advices are essential values.
I feel like to get you away from it all, to share with you my passion of the territory and the good addresses, to treat you with a hearty breakfast, to surprise your taste buds with homemade jams and cakes.
